Alaska's Inside Passage Sojourn

Experience the "Greatland's" wildlife, glaciers, mountains and wilderness through true Alaskan eyes!

Sail aboard a yacht-sized vessel up close to the country, the wildlife, and the everyday people of Alaska. Reach the remote wilderness, spending more time in those places that offer extraordinary scenic qualities, historical significance, and abundant wildlife.

Itinerary/Details

Day 1Sitka

Begin your adventure by boarding a deluxe tourboat, operated by Allen Marine Tours,  for a “Sea Otter and Wildlife Quest” exploration of beautiful Sitka Sound. Home to gray, humpback, and orca (killer) whales, sea otters, and Steller sea lions. Arrive at your ship near Peril Straits, in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness. Crewmembers guide you to your cabin and invite you to gather in the forward lounge for a drink and welcome aboard hors d’oeuvres.

Day 2 Red Bluff Bay & Kake

Cruise the east coast of Baranof Island spoting Humpback whales in Chatham Strait. The cliffs of Red Bluff Bay glow in the morning sun as you explore the old growth rainforest, waterfalls and pristine beaches. At the Village of Kake, a Tlingit elder and Tlingit dancers will come on board to provide a brief history of Kake. See the “World’s Largest Totem”, observe a totem wood carving demonstration, and visit the Gunnuk Creek Dog Salmon Hatchery Tour & Bear Viewing Platform.

Day 3 Hobart Bay

Enjoy exclusive access to Hobart Bay, their own wilderness special adventure base camp, built especially for guests of Alaskan Dream Cruises. The camp is outfitted with sea kayaks, small outboard driven Zego runabouts, and ATVs to ride the old logging roads through the lush coastal rainforest providing vistas of the surrounding areas. Experience aspects of each of these Alaskan lifestyle activities accompanied by your Expedition Leader and crew.

Day 4 Tracy Arm & Petersburg

Enter Tracy Arm early  and spend much of the day awe-struck by the natural wonders of this narrow, twisting 30-mile long fjord. Hundreds of waterfalls spill off high granite cliffs, harbor seals rest on ice floes, and the Twin Sawyer Glaciers regularly calve icebergs into the fjord. Petersburg is a fishing town established by Norwegian fishermen in the late 1800’s. At the Sons of Norway Hall, enjoy a Norwegian Folk Dance performed by Petersburg’s children. Take a short walk to Eagle Park, explore Sing Lee Alley, or shop downtown.

Day 5 Wrangell

Visit the rural community of Wrangell, located in the heart of the Tongass National Forest.  Wrangell is the gateway to the Stikine River, the fastest navigable free-flowing river in North America. Take a jet boat tour to this inspiring area, home to moose, deer, seals, sea lions, brown and black bear plus the hundreds of bald eagles and dozens of other migratory birds.  See Shakes Lake with her multitude of blue ice bergs and if conditions allow, venture in farther for a view of Shakes Glacier and the ancient ice from which it was created.

Day 6 Thorne Bay & Kasaan

Thorne Bay was once the largest logging camp in the world.  Venture on a gentle hike through the Tongass National Forest to view totems and local petroglyphs. Kasaan means “pretty town” in the Tlingit language.  Here visit The Chief Son-I-Hat Whale House, the only remaining Haida clan house in Alaska.

Day 7 Misty Fjords

Explore the pristine beauty of Misty Fjord. Along the way you’ll stop to view an active bald eagle’s nest, a Tlingit pictograph, and New Eddystone Rock; an immense volcanic spire rising from the emerald sea.  Learn the natural history of the fjords, listen to the call of nesting seabirds, and feel the mist of glistening waterfalls while gliding quietly beneath 3,000-foot glacier-sculpted cliffs.

Day 8 Ketchikan

The community is comprised of three islands, Revillagigedo, Gravina and Pennock and transportation between them requires a boat or ferry ride across the Tongass Narrows. One of “America’s Top 100 small arts communities” Ketchikan’s impressive variety of shops and galleries feature work by many of the island’s resident artists and an assortment of souvenir items and unique gifts that make shopping in this community a must do for any traveler.
