A breathtaking 40-mile drive south of Anchorage is the community of Girdwood. Founded as a gold mining town and further developed with the construction of the Alaska Railroad, Girdwood is now known as a resort town. Although it is home to Alyeska, the state’s largest winter ski resort, Girdwood is a year-round destination.
From snowboarding to hiking, flightseeing to snowmachining, activities abound in this playground for outdoor enthusiasts. For those looking for a little luxury, Girdwood is also home to The Hotel Alyeska, Alaska’s only AAA four-diamond property.
