Did you know..."BARN DOOR" Halibut weighing up to 400 pounds can be caught out of Homer?
Homer is a 5-hour drive south of Anchorage, located on the tip of the Kenai Peninsula where the Sterling Highway ends. No visit to Homer is complete without a visit to "the Spit", a long, narrow finger of land that extends 4.5 miles into Kachemak Bay. Although it is known as the "Halibut Fishing Capital of the World," this is not your typical fishing town. Homer is known throughout Alaska for its strong art community. With the beauty of Kachemak Bay, glaciers and mountains, it’s no wonder where the artists get their inspiration!
