Valdez

Valdez Harbor

Did you know...Alaska has over 100,000 glaciers – half the number in the entire WORLD?

Valdez is located on the north shore of the heavily glaciated Prince William Sound 305 miles east of Anchorage by the Richardson and Glenn Highways.

Valdez is the southern terminus of the TransAlaska Pipeline where the oil is loaded onto tankers en route to the Lower 48 states for refining. Many cruise liners and the Alaska Marine Highway System ferries stop in the port of Valdez every summer.

With annual snowfalls ranging from 300 inches of snow in town to 900 inches in nearby Thompson Pass, it is no surprise that Valdez is also home of the annual World Extreme Skiing Championship.

Activities in Valdez:

Known as Alaska’s Little Switzerland, Valdez offers beautiful views of the Chugach Range from spectacular scenic trails and rivers to explore in the surrounding area.
