Glaciers of Prince William Sound

Explore Prince William Sound, a spectacular waterway that provides a hint of what the world looked like after the last Ice Age!

Dubbed the "enchanted circle of emerald isles," this area is best explored by small ship in order to cruise cliff-walled fjords and narrow passages. Home to the largest concentration of tidewater glaciers in North America, listen for the "white thunder" of massive blocks of ice calving. Visit uninhabited islands as you watch bald eagles soar in the sky, curious sea otters gaze at you from kelp beds, and pods of orcas glide by. Cruise West knowledgeable Exploration Leaders provide guests with life-changing experiences in The Last Frontier.

Itinerary/Details

Day 1 - Anchorage

Depart for Whittier, traveling along the Turnagain Arm.  Embark this afternoon for seldom-visited areas of Prince William Sound, starting with an early evening visit to Blackstone Glacier.

Day 2 - College Fjord and Ester Passage

Wake up in front of a glacier! As your ship eases close to the active face, watch as icebergs calve into the sea. Continue to Esther Passage, a narrow waterway only small ships can navigate.

Day 3 - Cordova

Cross central Prince William Sound to the small fishing village of Cordova, world famous for its Copper River Salmon. Optional tours include sea kayaking, hiking and river rafting.

Day 4 - Chenga Glacier and Knight Island

Enjoy "gunkholing" around the nearby sculpted wilderness islands as you watch for seals on the icebergs, and mountain goats on the cliff faces. Narrow Icy Bay leads toward a stunning glacier experience at the head of the fjord.

Day 5 - Arrive Whittier

After an early-morning cruise past a kittiwake colony, disembark at Whittier. Transfer to the Anchorage Airport or extend your stay with a post cruise tour.
