| About Your Stay |
Winterlake offers seclusion and spectacular scenery. Views of the Trimble Glacier and the beginnings of the Rainy Pass are visible from the lake. Behind the lodge, Wolverine Mountain offers intriguing hiking and wildlife viewing. The scenic area is home to many species of Alaska birds, wildflowers and berries that are difficult to see in other locales. Winterlake Lodge is also the starting point for neighboring adventures. Float the Happy River, fish the Canyon Creek area, and explore the Upper Skwentna River and scenic Red Creek. Daily exploration opportunities are available.
After a dramatic 50-minute flight from Anchorage by floatplane, you will land on Winter Lake. The Winterlake Lodge managers will meet you and show you the lodge facilities and to your cabin, offer you a refreshing drink, warm hand towels for a quick wash-up, and a little time to 'decompress' from the outside world. A daily activity sheet is posted in your cabin and a daily menu of meals is posted in the main lodge. Daily activities might include a guided ½ -hour narrated walk, a cooking class, a tour of the lake by canoe, and special seasonal activities such as berry picking.
You are able to make a detailed itinerary of your days spent at Winterlake with your guide. Be as physically rigorous as you like, or lay back and enjoy a lakeside glass of wine. A 30’ X 30’ commercial kitchen area, has become our teaching kitchen for Within The Wild Adventure Lodges culinary programs. Many visiting chefs and specialized culinary programs are at the lodge throughout the year. You are welcome to come into the kitchen at any time and help cook if you like! Meals are served from one daily menu, but you are welcome to request special dishes. Lakeside barbecues often feature Alaska salmon and Alaska King crab.
