Itinerary

Day 1 • Anchorage
An Explore Tours representative will meet you at the airport in Anchorage or your hotel with your travel documents and answer any questions you might have. Pick up your rental car and visit the Alaska Native Heritage Center for an introduction to Alaska’s heritage and culture. Overnight in Anchorage, the first historic city on your tour of Southcentral Alaska.

Day 2 • Anchorage/Seward

Drive south on the scenic Seward Highway and enjoy spectacular views of Turnagain Arm before stopping in the historic gold mining town of Girdwood. Proceed to Portage and visit the Begich, Boggs Visitor Center in Portage. Learn more about Chugach National Forest and the glaciers in Portage Valley. Continue south to Seward for your overnight at a historic hotel.

Day 3 • Soldotna/Kenai
Visit the Alaska SeaLife Center before driving to Soldotna. Stop at the Soldotna Chamber of Commerce. Begin a historic tour of downtown, including Fort Kenay and the Holy Assumption of the Virgin Mary Orthodox Church (a National Historic Landmark) at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. Return to Soldotna for your overnight accommodations.

Day 4 • Ninilchik/Homer
38 miles from Soldotna, you will reach the community of Ninilchik. Stop for photos of the historic Russian Orthodox Church and cemetery, still in use by local residents. Continue on to Anchor Point, the most westerly highway point in North America. Upon arrival in Homer, enjoy an optional visit to the Pratt Museum and local art galleries at your leisure. Overnight in Homer.

Day 5 • Homer

Depart on a birding and wildlife cruise to the historic town of Seldovia. On board, enjoy beautiful Kachemak Bay, bird rookeries and keep an eye out for sea otters, porpoises, and seals in Eldred Passage. Visit the St. Nicholas Russian Orthodox Church, built in 1895, and the old town boardwalk upon arrival in Seldovia. Return to Homer by early evening.

Day 6 • Homer/Anchorage

Drive back to Anchorage. If time permits, visit the town of Hope. This quaint town was established in 1889 during the gold rush. Overnight in Anchorage.

Day 7 • Anchorage
Return your rental car and fly home or add a mini-tour to extend your stay!
