Day 1 • Anchorage
An Explore Tours representative will meet you upon arrival in Anchorage and go over your travel documents with you. Overnight in Anchorage.
Day 2 • Anchorage/Talkeetna
Begin your day driving north of Anchorage on the Glenn and Parks Highways. As you make your way through Wasilla, you may make an optional visit to Iditarod Headquarters for a glimpse into the history of the Iditarod Sled Dog Race. Or stop and tour the kennel of an Iditarod Sled Dog Musher! Proceed to Talkeetna, a quaint town that serves as the jumping off point for Mt. McKinley climbing expeditions (approximately 3 hours, 113 miles, 182 km). Overnight at the Talkeetna Alaska Lodge.
Day 3 • Talkeetna
This morning embark on a jetboat tour that will take you on three rivers; the Talkeetna, Susitna and Chulitna. Visit an authentic Trapper's Cabin during your 1/4 mile nature walk. This afternoon is yours free to choose from a variety of optional activities – river rafting, hiking, or Mt. McKinley flightseeing. Overnight at the Talkeetna Alaska Lodge.
Day 4 • Talkeetna - Hatcher Pass
Continue south to Willow where you will take an alternate route to the Hatcher Pass/Independence Mine State Historical Park. Once a gold mining area, Hatcher’s Pass is known for its abundant scenery and as a local playground for outdoor activities. Overnight in the Hatchers Pass area.
Day 5 • Hatchers Pass/Knik Glacier
Begin your morning meeting some of Alaska’s oldest residents with an optional visit to the Musk Ox Farm in Palmer. Learn about how the underwool of these magnificent animals is woven into qiviut, a fiber that is warmer than wool and finer than cashmere. Continue on the Old Glenn Highway to the Knik Glacier area. Overnight at Knik River Lodge.
Day 6 • Knik Glacier
Get your day off to an exhilarating start with a four-hour airboat tour of Knik Glacier. Look for wildlife and view this 25-mile river of ice flowing from the Chugach Mountains. Pull ashore for a two hour visit to Glacier Camp and enjoy a light snack. Overnight at Knik River Lodge.
Day 7 • Knik Glacier/Anchorage
