Itinerary

Day 1 • Anchorage
Upon arrival at the airport in Anchorage you will be greeted by an Explore Tours representative who will provide you with your travel documents and answer any questions you may have. Pick up your rental car and transfer to your bed and breakfast for your overnight in Anchorage.

Day 2 • Anchorage/Seward
This morning head south to Seward for a scenic cruise through Kenai Fjords National Park. Watch for abundant wildlife, colorful seabirds and spectacular glaciers calving. This tour is fully narrated and lunch is included. Overnight in Seward.

Day 3 • Seward

Today is free for optional sightseeing activities. Perhaps take a hike at Exit Glacier, go fishing, sea kayaking, visit a dog sled kennel, or tour the Alaska SeaLife Center. Activities abound! Overnight in Seward.

Day 4 • Seward/Valdez
Continue the journey with a scenic drive from Seward to Whittier. Keep an eye out for wildlife along the way. Travel through the Anton Anderson Memorial Tunnel, North America’s longest tunnel, before reaching Whittier. Upon arrival, board the ferry with your car for a cruise through Prince William Sound along the Alaska Marine Highway. Overnight in Valdez.

Day 5 • Valdez/Knik River
Leave Valdez this morning and head north to Knik River. En route enjoy views of four prominent peaks of the majestic Wrangell Mountains: Mts. Sanford, Drum, Wrangell and Blackburn. Continue through the Matanuska-Susitna Valley to the Knik River Lodge for your overnight.

Day 6 • Knik River

Explore the Knik River Valley and Knik Glacier on an airboat tour. This peaceful location is a treat as it is one that few travelers have discovered. Overnight at Knik River Lodge.

Day 7 • Knik River/Denali
Travel north on the Parks Highway to Denali. The drive between Wasilla and Denali offers breathtaking scenery and you may see wildlife along the way. Depending on the weather, the majestic Mt. McKinley may be visible. Overnight at Denali Park entrance.

Day 8 • Denali

Spend the day enjoying the narrated Kantishna bus tour through Denali National Park. Search for moose, bear, wolves, caribou, Dall sheep and more. Box lunch and beverage is included. Overnight at Denali Park entrance.

Day 9 • Denali/Fairbanks
In the afternoon, enjoy another scenic drive on your way to Fairbanks. Overnight in Fairbanks.

Day 10 • Fairbanks

Today is free for Fairbanks sightseeing. Your choice of optional activities include cultural tours above the Arctic Circle, riverboat cruising, gold panning, and the University of Alaska Museum of the North. Overnight in Fairbanks.

Day 11 • Fairbanks/Anchorage
Drop off your car this morning and board a flight back to Anchorage. Spend your day by taking an optional flightseeing or narrated city tour, or just relax with a nice stroll downtown.

Day 12 • Anchorage

End of tour.

Meet and assist upon arrival, overnight accommodations (in Anchorage, Seward, Valdez, Knik River, Denali, and Fairbanks), Kenai Fjords cruise (with lunch), ferry passage from Whittier to Valdez, Knik Glacier tour, Denali Park entrance fees, and Kantishna bus tour (with lunch).
