Itinerary/Details
Day 1 Anchorage/Homer
Enjoy the scenic drive from Anchorage this morning (car rental additional) and arrive the picturesque town of Homer where you'll stay this evening on "the spit" along the shores of Kachemak Bay at the Land's End Resort.
Day 2 Homer
Experience grizzly bears like you never thought possible as you fly via bush plane into the remote wilderness of Katmai National Park, recognized as having highest concentration of protected grizzly bears in the world! The flight from Homer to Katmai is an adventure by itself with magnificent flightseeing including glaciers, volcanoes, and mountains all set against the backdrop of the blue ocean. Your flight will land on the beach and have you joining the bears on foot where you'll have opportunities to view and photograph bears fishing, clamming, raising cubs, playing, and occasionally even mating. Typically, you may see anywhere from 5 to 40 grizzly bears depending on the time of year. Explore Tours works with a local vendor that has a perfect safety record both in the air and on the ground.
Day 3 Homer
Cook Inlet is noted for some of the largest (and tastiest) halibut in the world. Not only is the fishing famous in this area, but you will also be in prime marine wildlife territory. Be prepared to be entertained during your fishing adventure by playful sea otters, colorful puffins, porpoises and whales. All of your fishing gear is supplied along with complimentary filleting service.
Day 4 Homer/Anchorage
Drive back to Anchorage. If time permits, visit the town of Hope. This quaint town was established in 1889 during the gold rush. Your tour ends in Anchorage - or you may extend with an extra overnight.
