Day 6 Wed, March 6, 2013 Turnagain Arm - Girdwood
The Seward Highway is a "National Scenic Highway", and for good reason! It is not less, and maybe even more, spectacular in the winter. The Turnagain Arm looks like something from another planet, with natural ice sculptures covered in glacial silt, floating with the tide like a moving surface of Mars.
Your Salmon Berry tour guide will drive you from your hotel, down the Turnagain Arm for this extended wildlife tour, adding the aerial tram up Mt. Alyeska for lunch with a view. At the top we'll also enjoy the snow-covered decks, watching skiers and snowboarders have a blast on the famed North Face - one of the longest double black diamond runs anywhere! On weekends the Roundhouse Museum is even open at the top.
Your tour guide will show you around and tell you all about the area including the exhibits in the Roundhouse, the Girdwood Valley, and a town formally called Glacier City. Along with the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, this tour takes 5 to 6 hours and even includes your lunch!
