March 1, 2008 · Anchorage – Ceremonial Start of Iditarod
Gather in downtown Anchorage this morning for the start of “the last great race on earth”! This unique dog sled race has mushers and their dog teams traveling over 1150 miles of the roughest, most beautiful and rugged terrain Mother Nature has to offer. Or choose to be an “Idita-rider” and bid for the opportunity to ride in the sled with the mushers (visit www.iditarod.com for more information)! After watching the start of the race, enjoy local shopping and activities. Pick up your rental car in downtown Anchorage this evening.
March 2, 2008 · Anchorage – Tour of Anchorage
After inspiration from the Iditarod athletes, today you may opt to participate in a race of your own! The Tour of Anchorage (www.tourofanchorage.com) is a cross-country ski marathon encompassing four races: a 25k classical race and three freestyle races (25k, 40k, and 50k). Or simply cheer on this event as skiers glide through the city of Anchorage!
