Your adventure begins with an overnight stay in downtown Anchorage. The next morning travel north to the quaint town of Talkeetna. Known in the summer as the starting point for climbers attempting to scale Mt. McKinley, this town offers real Alaska like none other.
Meet up in Talkeetna with your host and guide to the skies, Dave Parkhurst. A world-renowned northern lights photographer, Dave has been chasing and capturing these magnificent displays on camera since 1980. As the “Aurora Watchman,” Dave is on hand to help you see the northern lights. On average, Mother Nature performs her magical show one out of three nights, so your Aurora Watch offers a good chance to see a display. And whether you are a casual or professional photographer, Dave is happy to share his photography tips with you. Don’t miss his presentation filled with some of the best northern lights photos ever captured in Alaska!
During your stay in Talkeetna, choose from a variety of optional activities. Take a flightseeing tour of North America’s tallest peak, go dog sledding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, or snowmachining. Or just relax during the day – your nights are sure to be filled with excitement!
After experiencing the town of Talkeetna and learning more about the northern lights, return to Anchorage for your overnight stay. The rest of the evening is yours to explore Alaska’s largest city.
