Gather in downtown Anchorage this morning for the start of “the last great race on earth”! This unique dog sled race has mushers and their dog teams traveling over 1150 miles of the roughest, most beautiful and rugged terrain Mother Nature has to offer. Or choose to be an “Idita-rider” and bid for the opportunity to ride in the sled with the mushers (visit www.iditarod.com for more information)! After watching the start of the race, enjoy local shopping and activities.
Sunday, March 8, 2009 · Anchorage - Willow - Anchorage
This morning drive north to the community of Willow for the race re-start. Enjoy this second opportunity to watch the mushers and their dog teams head out on the trail. After restarting the race in Willow, the mushers begin their quest north to Nome! On your way back south, you might opt for a visit to the official Iditarod Headquarters in Wasilla, before returning to Anchorage. Return your rental car this evening and retire to your hotel for your overnight in Anchorage. Please note: weather conditions may result in moving the restart to another location.
Monday, March 9, 2009 · Anchorage – "Iditarod Trail Flightseeing"
This morning a flightseeing tour experience awaits you! Depart Anchorage and travel north via a small ski plane and intercept the Iditarod Trail. Get an eagle eye view of the trail as you watch mushers and their teams. Land at a remote location along the Iditarod Trail. Watch the leaders pass by and cheer on your favorite mushers! Return to Anchorage in the early evening and transfer to your hotel for overnight accommodations.

The day is free at your leisure. You may choose to embark on an optional snowmobile tour, dogsled adventure, go skiing or visit the shops, galleries and restaurants of downtown Anchorage.
Wednesday, March 11, 2009 · Anchorage-Seward-Anchorage
Travel by motor coach along the scenic Seward Highway, a National Scenic Byway, to the quaint town of Seward. Enjoy a 2 ½ hour cruise of Resurrection Bay. Have your camera ready on board the cruise to photograph the spectacular scenery, while watching for whales, puffins, otters, sea lions, and more. En route stop at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center in Portage to learn more about the magnificent animals found in Alaska. Return to Anchorage this evening in time to experience the Anchorage nightlife.
