Hike to one of several old abandoned mines for the ultimate adventure. Be prepared – these treks are recommended for the more seasoned hiker, but if you’re up to the challenge, oh man do the views pay off!

Erie Mine

Available from 27th May, 2018 to 11th September, 2018.

For seasoned hikers, this challenging excursion will take you along the edge of Root Glacier and up the Wrangell Mountains! This technical hike travels off-trail through difficult, yet scenic terrain to the remains of Erie Mine, providing stunning views of landmarks such as the Stairway Icefall, Donoho Peak, and more! Tour Duration: Approximately 6-10 hours

Jumbo Mine

Take an adventure through the backcountry to the historic Jumbo Mine & Castle Mountain! Not for the faint of heart, this day hike gains about 3,000 feet of elevation during the 5-mile trek. Explore an old junction section where aerial tramways once transported copper ore between Jumbo & Glacier Mines. Tour Duration: Approximately 6-10 hours

Bonanza Mine

This challenging yet thrilling hike travels up 4,000 feet and follows the original Wagon Road to historic Bonanza Mine! Along the way, take in striking views of Chugach Mountains, Chinitna River Valley, and Root and Kennicott Glaciers. Once at the mine, explore the area and keep an eye out for old artifacts left behind! Perfect for the more active adventurer! Tour Duration: Approximately 6-10 hours
